Creating a New Centre for Asian Insights and Leadership Development

According to Deloitte's South East Asia 2016 Annual Human Capital Trend report, entitled "The New Organisation: Different by Design", leadership development continues to be the top Human Capital priority in Southeast Asia with 97% of business and HR leaders in the region ranking it above other talent issues in terms of importance. To tackle this growing human capital leadership develop need, TMS Academy, the integrated leadership development arm of Temasek Management Service (TMS) and the Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI) will merge on July 1, 2017 and form a new centre of excellence with a mission of developing leaders in Asia and beyond. The new organisation will retain the HCLI name and operate as a subsidiary of TMS, with Ms Wong Su-Yen as the CEO.

With the on-going support of Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the new HCLI will offer an expanded portfolio of leadership development programmes for executives, ranging from emerging leaders to company directors. HCLI's extensive proprietary research on Asian leadership and actionable insights will continue to inform programme design.

    In addition to Mr. Verghese, Directors of the new HCLI Board are:
  • Mr. Eddie Ahmed, Chairman, President and CEO, MassMutual International,
  • Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Chairman Singapore Economic Development Board,
  • Ms. Goh Swee Chen, Chairman Shell Companies in Singapore,
  • Mr. Aubeck Kam, Permanent Secretary Singapore Ministry of Manpower
  • Mr. Vinod Kumar, Managing Director and CEO Tata Communications Ltd Group; and
  • Ms. Jacqueline Wong, CEO Temasek Management Services.

Combining the two entities will result in one unique organisation with a broader reach across industries to address the demand for leadership development and strategic human capital management capabilities in and for, Asia. The new HCLI will bring to Asian business leaders the best current thinking from global and regional academic thought leaders, blended with unique insights from leading policy makers and practitioners. The new centre will continue to design intellectually rigorous programmes, which are focused on practical and actionable learnings that will stay with participants through their leadership journeys.
